Suggested themes/topics:

1. The Changing Cultural Map of Europe.

The changing cultural and literary geography of Europe; newly evolving relationships between the center and the periphery, between the boundaries of West, Central and East Europe and adjacent border areas. Cultural collisions between different areas and the appearance of new cultural zones. The shifting concept of Eastern Europe. Periphery as a challenge; traditional and alternative cultural capitals.

Seas of encounter: The Baltic, the Mediterranean, the North Sea, the Black Sea.

2. A Museum of European Images.

Old and new images of Europe; images, myths and symbols which reveal various aspects of European culture. Displacement and transformation of images in time. Digital images, museums and archives. Artifacts and cultural memory. Changing concepts of European history and its innovative interpretations in art. The importance of historical turning points, such as war or struggle for independence, for literature and culture as a whole.

3. Narratives of journeys: pilgrim, tourist, spiritual, educational, etc.; their visual representation in photography, iconography, cinema and other art forms. The relationship between elite and tourist culture, manifestations of mass or tourist mentality. The mirroring of exodus and migration in art.

4. Rhetoric of Identity in Contemporary Europe.

Questions related to the deconstruction of ethnocentric identities. The many-faceted strategies of including the other in one's own identity. Rhetoric of identity and the fear of loss. Problems of linguistic identity.

5. Reception of Lithuanian literature and/or culture in other European countries.

Comparison between topics, myths, images of Lithuanian literature and other European literature.
