Correspondances d’écrivains pendant la pandémie de Covid-19 : entre l’individuel et le social, du privé au public

La pandémie de Covid-19 aura inspiré des œuvres littéraires (poèmes, récits, nouvelles, romans, etc.) et artistiques (dessins, tableaux, musiques, photographies, films, etc.). Cependant, qu’en est-il des correspondances ou des relations épistolaires pendant la période de cette crise sanitaire planétaire ?  Le présent projet s’intéresse alors à cet autre mode d'expression de soi, plus ou moins littéraire (pris au sens large du terme) à travers l'épistolaire chez les écrivain.e.s. La pratique épistolaire, en effet, traverse les époques sous de formes diverses. Les canaux, les modalités et les codes de la correspondance évoluent et varient selon les auteurs, la teneur, les intentions et le contexte de production/réception. À l’ère numérique actuelle et en contexte pandémique, notamment avec l’expérience du confinement, comment s’est déployée chez les écrivain.e.s la pratique épistolaire et quels ont été les enjeux d’une telle forme d’expression en période de crise ? C’est à cette principale question qu’entend répondre cet appel à contributions pour un ouvrage collectif. Aussi s’agit-il pour les écrivain.e.s, selon leur volonté et le cas échéant, de revisiter, de collectionner, de sélectionner, d’organiser, de transcrire ou réécrire et de sortir de la sphère privée pour la sphère publique leurs correspondances numériques ou non pendant la pandémie du Coronavirus. Les objectifs d’une telle initiative sont entre autres :

• Partager ou témoigner (d’) une expérience individuelle et collective/sociale de cette période d’intranquillité, de fragilité et de vulnérabilité ;


• Montrer comment le regard de l’écrivain.e se pose sur le monde en temps de crise de ce genre ;


• Cerner l’impact négatif ou positif de la pandémie sur l’acte de création littéraire, à travers sa capacité à mettre l’écrivain.e à l’épreuve et/ou à l’œuvre sur le plan professionnel.

Cet appel s’adresse dès lors aux écrivain.e.s en particulier mais aussi à toute personne ayant eu une correspondance avec un.e écrivain.e pendant la pandémie. Ainsi, peuvent être prises en compte les orientations non exhaustives suivantes, qui mettent sous tension l’individuel et le social, le personnel et le professionnel, le privé et le public dans la communication épistolaire sous-tendue par un brouillage générique fécond :

1. Correspondance entre l’écrivain.e et l’écrivain.e ou d’autres écrivain.e.s


2. Correspondance entre l’écrivain.e et un.e autre artiste (musicien.ne, photographe, cinéaste, peintre, dessinateur/trice, comédien.ne, etc.)


3. Correspondance entre l’écrivain.e et une personne non artiste (conjoint.e, enfant.s, proche.s, ami.e.s, journaliste.s, éditeur.s, agent.s littéraire.s, enseignant.s, etc.)


4. Correspondance entre l’écrivain.e et ses lecteurs ou son public (fandom, site personnel, compte Facebook, etc.).

Les contributions, en français ou en anglais, d’une longueur comprise entre 2 à 20 pages (format Word ; police Time New Roman ; taille 12 ; interligne 1,5 ; marges normales) peuvent être soumises avant le 31 mars 2022 à l’adresse suivante : correspondancesdecrivains22@gmail.com

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS FOR A COLLECTIVE WORK

Writers' correspondences during the Covid-19 pandemic: between the individual and the social, from private to public

The Covid-19 pandemic inspired literary works (poems, stories, novels, etc.) and artistic works (drawings, paintings, music, photographs, films, etc.). However, what about correspondence or epistolary relations during the period of this global health crisis?  The present project is therefore interested in this other mode of self-expression, more or less literary (taken in the broad sense of the term) through epistolary writing among writers. The epistolary practice, indeed, crosses the times under diverse forms. The channels, modalities and codes of correspondence evolve and vary according to the authors, the content, the intentions and the context of production/reception. In the current digital era and in a pandemic context, particularly with the experience of confinement, how has epistolary practice been deployed among writers and what have been the stakes of such a form of expression in times of crisis? It is to this main question that this call for contributions for a collective work intends to answer. It is also a question for the writers, according to their will and if necessary, to revisit, to collect, to select, to organize, to transcribe or rewrite and to leave the private sphere to make public their digital or not correspondences during the pandemic of the Coronavirus. The objectives of such an initiative include:

- To share or testify an individual and collective/social experience of this period of intranquillity, fragility and vulnerability;

- To show how the writer's gaze is cast on the world in times of such crisis;

- To identify the negative or positive impact of the pandemic on the act of literary creation, through its capacity to put the writer to the test and/or at work on a professional level.

This call is therefore addressed to writers in particular, but also to anyone who has had a correspondence with a writer during the pandemic. Thus, the following non-exhaustive orientations can be taken into account, which put under tension the individual and the social, the personal and the professional, the private and the public in the epistolary expression underpinned by a fertile generic blurring:

1. Correspondence between the writer and the writer or other writers


2. Correspondence between the writer and another artist (musician, photographer, filmmaker, painter, draughtsman, actor, etc.)


3. Correspondence between the writer and a non-artist (spouse, children, relatives, friends, journalists, publishers, literary agents, teachers, etc.)


4. Correspondence between the writer and his/her readers or audience (fandom, personal website, Facebook account, etc.)

Contributions, in French or English, between 2 and 20 pages long (Word format; font: Time New Roman; size 12; line spacing 1.5; normal margins) can be submitted before March 31, 2022 to this address: correspondancesdecrivains22@gmail.com
